The beginning of the development of various contemporary art schools in Ukraine opened and introduced new attitude to academic higher art education. Relevant contemporary art requirements have created the conditions for the appearance of the Department of Visual Practices at the traditional design school of Kharkiv State Academy of Design and Arts. Our department is capable of synthesizing the classical experience of realist art and studying current trends in contemporary audiovisual and plastic arts
(video art, media art, art design, art-object, installation, contemporary painting and drawing).

For the first time in Ukraine actual art will live and be studied in the academic, not private environment. A flexible system of education, research and creativity has been created. It includes the experience of Polish, English, and Lithuanian higher schools of contemporary art. The artistic creative activity, individual projects, master classes of leading contemporary art artists and designers are an integral part of study and research process.
