A SELF-PORTRAIT WITH an APPLE. Self-presentation of the myth.

For the second time, the hospitable walls of the Lippe State Library in Detmold are hosting an exhibition of works by students and graduates of the Kharkiv State Academy of Design and Arts.

This time we present the project A SELF-PORTRAIT WITH an APPLE. Self-presentation of the myth, created in 2019 as an idea of a creative association of different generations of Kharkiv artists, students and graduates of the Department of Monumental Painting of the KSADA. Basically, they are all students of Professor Eugeny Kotlyar.

During 2019-2021, this project in the form of a traveling art exhibition with AR animation created by students of the Multimedia Design Department was shown in different cities of Ukraine.

The war in Ukraine scattered the participants of this project all around the globe. During a full-scale invasion, some of the works from this project have been destroyed in houses due to rocket attacks and bombing. Part of the work have been mothballed. Therefore, the exhibition presents printed copies of works on canvas.

The exhibition at the Lippe State Library in Detmold is uniting again Kharkiv women-artists, this time in Europe, in Germany. It gives them inspiration and faith in the power of their own creativity, emotional and professional support.

The exposition also introduses the German viewer to the traditions of Ukrainian realistic painting, to the art of young Ukrainian women, to the work of Kharkiv residents, who found themselves in the epicenter of modern war and its consequences.

The topic of the project is timeless. In the self-portraits of artists, the motif with an apple revealed the theme of eternity and transience, as well as personal existential experience. How does this ancient story resonate in the minds and creativity of our contemporaries?

It's time to gather apples...

The exhibition is organized by the Lippe State Library in Detmold, by the "HudpromArt" Art Center of the Kharkiv State Academy of Design and Arts with the assistance of the Eastern Regional Scientific and Art Center of the National Academy of Arts of Ukraine with the support of the CSLtd company (Kharkiv).
